We are creatures of habit, of that there is no doubt. While the
purpose of life is to evolve, and God’s wish and goal for us is
to evolve, that is the one thing by nature we wish not to do.
We’re comfortable with our horses and buggies. Why should
we buy one of these automobiles? They could be dangerous, but
worse— They’re different. The fact of the matter is
there is always someone pushing us to change; to adapt, to
evolve. Someone more advanced than us who encourages us to try
something new. Learning to walk— What a nightmare! We
thought “I just fell into the coffee table and that hurt!”
But we had someone, perhaps a parent or friend, who already knew how to
walk. They knew it was worth the pains of falling down, and the
mistakes, in order to accomplish independent movement. Is this
not how God is? Does he not constantly try to push us out of old
routines, things that don’t serve us anymore, and on to our
betterment? God is our mother who takes us by the hand, pulls us
onto our feet, smiles and says to us “Here! Try something
new today!”
